Full re-roof, old tiles to new
The old tiles were stripped off and the roof taken back to the rafters. New breathable membrane and battens went on, then the whole roof was re-covered with new grey tiles.
About our roofing work
We re-roof houses in slate and tile, repair roofs that are leaking or storm-damaged, and replace flat roofs on extensions, dormers and garages.
Plenty of roofs only need a repair: a few slipped slates, a split in the lead, or a valley that has worn through. If a roof has reached the end of its life, patching it usually costs more in the long run. We'll tell you which one yours needs.
Roofing work we carry out
- Re-roofing
- Stripping the old covering, replacing rotten or undersized timbers, fitting new membrane and battens, and re-covering in slate or tile to match the original.
- Roof repairs
- Slipped or broken slates and tiles, failed valleys, split lead and loose ridge tiles. We trace leaks back to where the water is actually getting in.
- Storm damage
- Making the roof safe and watertight first, then carrying out the full repair.
- Flat roofs
- New flat roofs on extensions, dormers, garages and outriggers, built with the right falls, upstands and outlets.
- Ridges, verges and leadwork
- Re-bedding and re-pointing ridges and hips, dry-fix systems, and new lead flashings at chimneys, walls and parapets.
- Gutters, fascias and soffits
- Replacing leaking or sagging gutters and downpipes, along with the fascias and soffits behind them.
- Chimneys
- Re-pointing, new flaunching, rebuilding above the roofline, or taking a stack down and making good the roof.
Got a leak?
Most leaks start where one part of a roof meets another, such as a valley, a chimney, a wall abutment or the eaves. Water can run along the timbers a long way before it shows on a ceiling, so the damp patch is often nowhere near the cause.

Roofing questions
Does my roof need repairing or replacing?
A handful of slipped slates on an otherwise sound roof is a repair. If slates are slipping all over the roof because the nails have rusted through, the timbers are sagging, or you're losing tiles every winter, a new roof is usually the better value. We'll explain what we find and why.
Can you match my existing slates or tiles?
Usually, either with new material of the same type and size or with reclaimed slate. On small repairs the colour won't always be identical, because old slate weathers. We'll let you know before we start.
Will you need scaffolding?
For a re-roof, yes, and for most work above single-storey height, as it's the only safe way to do the job. For smaller repairs where it isn't needed, we won't put it up.
